Renew Passport MY

 This is a guide for those who need to renew online passport for collection at

UTC Penang, Malaysia.

Latest up to date procedure for Sept 2024.

There are some exceptions to who can apply online. Easily available information online for this.

1. Go to any photo studio/camera shop to get passport sized photo.

Wear dark/black with some collar.

Read further dressing requirement online.

Ask camera shop for soft copy only. About RM10.

Make sure submission of passport application is done soon after photograph is taken. They want you to look about the same.

2. Go to online renewal link.

Fill in some details and upload the soft copy photo.

PRINT OUT RECEIPT.

3. WAIT for email saying if they have approved it.

Or like me, they asked me to come in for thumbprint.

Got this email in 20mins luckily.

They said email may take 1-3days though.

4. After email, go to UTC and ask inquiry counter where to go for online passport collection.

They will ask for your old passport, receipt and Mykad.

Then proceed to give you a number, for counter 3 or counter 4.

Give the above three documents.

5. Wait for number to be called to counter 3 or 4 for surrender of old passport. Then wait with the same queue number to collect new passport. I waited half an hour despite being told it'll be an hour.

Number will be called to counter 11 or counter 12.

Sign as acknowledgment sheet, and then sign your passport. Thank the officer and then off you go.
